Running time: 50 minutes ::: SYNOPSIS ::: Seven Days That Shook United documents the seven worst days in Manchester United's life. Rich in sex, scandal, intrigue and tragedy, The Seven Days That Shook United is an alternative history of the most famous football club on earth. Sunday 10th January 1971: The beginning of the end for George Best who missed a game because he was in bed with actress Sinead Cusack. It spelled a showdown with the father figure of what was still a family club: Matt Busby. Monday 4th July 1977: Tommy Docherty plays away with the wife of the club's physio, Mary Brown. The affair ended the Doc's career at United, but did spawn the timeless terrace chant 'who's up Mary Brown?'. Tuesday 1st July 1999: The club at the peak of its legendary arrogance - withdrawing from the Holy Grail of British football: the FA Cup. Wednesday 25th January 1995: Cantona puts both feet in it as he launches a karate kick at a Crystal Palace fan. Thursday 6th February 1958: The events of 6 Feb 1958 are at the heart of the United legend: the Munich air disaster. From then on the club added a new colour to its read and white strip - black. Friday 18th August 1989: Martin Edwards attempts to sell the club. In control of the club since 1965, fans have all too often had to stomach the fact that the Edwards family are business people first, Manchester United fans second. Saturday 27th April 1974: Denis Law's backheel into the United net is sweet revenge for having been publicly sacked by the club. The great Manchester United are relegated to the Second Division. For fans it shows just how far their beloved team has come since then. For those who refer to the club simply as 'scum', it offers hope. If it happened before... |
