Running time: 8 minutes 24 seconds ::: SYNOPSIS ::: Crossing is a lyrical and imagistic portrait of a boy coming to terms with the death of his father. After his father passes away, the boy has a number of visions of him. In their first meeting in this dream world of a desolate beach, the boy tries to embrace his father, but he pushes him away and refuses to look at him or speak. As the film develops, the boy realises that his father wants him to help him build a boat on the beach. They regain some kind of intimacy through the work. The boat is ready. The father waits for the boy, but instead, in the real world, the boy paints a picture of his father rowing away. The boy has achieved a kind of closure and a way of expressing his grief. His father has helped him cross over and it is time for him to cross over too. With a beautifully spare sound track from Michael Sampson and Andrew Roddy, the film is a poetic, at times enigmatic, allegory of grief. |
